The History of Cafe Kili
A recent article by Elizabeth Lieb recounts the rich history of Cafe Kili and its founders.
"Recently opened Café Kili of Temple Terrace is a dream come true for Rose. A professional nurse by trade, she relocated with her family to the Bay area 10 years ago from her native Kenya. Since arriving in the United States, she’s worked at various jobs, raised three sons, and is an active member in her church, West Gate Baptist. In spite of a busy life during these years as wife, mother and financial contributor to the family, she continued to nurture a personal dream of selling fresh roasted coffee.
Growing up as the daughter of a coffee farmer had many benefits. The family business, located in the Central Province of Kenya, was sufficiently prosperous that Rose and her siblings were able to attend school and pursue professional careers. Contributing to a family business left Rose with entrepreneur attitudes and a willingness to take risks. With all this experience in her favor, she lacked one skill she felt essential to delivering quality coffee – the craft of roasting coffee beans. With the support of her husband, Patrick, she took small steps over the last two years towards fulfilling her ambition..."

About Our Coffee
Drinking coffee is an act to be enjoyed, whether alone or with friends. A good cup of coffee is smooth, rich and flavorful, not bitter or burnt tasting. Our family's love of good coffee coupled with expert knowledge of roasting led to our decision to introduce Tampa to the wonders of small batch coffee roasting.
Roasting coffee in small batches has many benefits for the coffee lover:
- Roasting in small batches allows Cafe Kili to pay close attention to how the beans are treated before, during, and after roasting.
- Cafe Kili is able to personally select coffee sources and view the beans themselves before roasting, ensuring that the green coffee beans are of superior quality.
- Small batch roasting enables Cafe Kili to select the roast that best draws out the flavor of the green beans.
- Roasting only a few pounds of beans at the same time ensures that the coffee is roasted evenly to desired specifications
- As Cafe Kili roasts coffee on an as needed basis, there is no stockpiling of roasted coffee, ensuring that the beans used and sold are the freshest.
- Best of all, Cafe Kili's small batch coffee roasting results in a delicious cup of coffee.

Types of Coffee
Kenya AA – If one wants to taste the world’s greatest coffee, time should be spent with a cup of Kenya AA coffee.
The finest Arabica is grown in the rich, volcanic soil of Kenya at high altitudes which create ideal growing conditions. Kenya AA is characterized as having a cabernet-like profile, referring to its fruity and acidic taste structure. Its berry tones and black current taste make this coffee instantly recognizable to fans.
Ethiopia – Explore coffee from its origins.
Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, allows coffee lovers to experience a truly historic and exotic cup of coffee. Gathered primarily from wild trees, Ethiopian coffee from the premier coffee growing region of Yiragacheffe features distinctive aromas and tones. Its pleasant acidity, heavy body with citrus tones and an earthy aroma are both surprising and exhilarating.
Tanzania Peaberry – Venture the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro through a cup of coffee.
From the slopes of Mount Kili comes a light-bodied but sweetly acidic and wonderfully aromatic coffee. Its intense sweet berry flavor is softened by delicious fruit and wine-like overtones.
Brazil Santos – One of the world’s most complicated coffees.
A mild, full-bodied coffee with a slightly nutty taste. Brazil has a reputation for producing coffee that is carelessly picked and primitively processed. However, the best (usually dry-processed Bourbon Santos) is carefully picked and shipped through the port of Santos. It possesses a wonderfully deep, complex, sweet coffee particularly appropriate for espresso.
Colombia Supremo – Supremo isn't a brand name for marketing purposes; it's a grade of Colombian coffee, the highest grade.
Supremo is a dark roast that fares well in reviews among average day to day drinkers and coffee specialist. Colombia Supremo has wonderful fresh fruity taste with a distinct smokiness, and is known for its soft sweet aroma. The mild acidity and good body make for an excellent cup of coffee.
Costa Rica. – An enticing cup of coffee.
Coast Rican coffee is a full bodied and refreshingly acidic cup of coffee which is grown at high altitudes. This sound and balanced coffee contain hints of fresh florals, fruits, and subtle spices which distinguish it among connoisseurs.
Guatemala Antigua –Natured from the cherry to the bean.
Antigua, one of Guatemala’s oldest and best-known growing regions, produces coffee with a complex taste. This coffee can be identified by its smoky, spicy, and floral flavors. Additionally, it contains a hint of choco and acidity that ranges from gently bright to austerely powerful.
Kili Special – A truly unique cup of coffee.

Columbia Decaf – Decaffeinated coffee un-compromised.
The decaffeinated counterpart of our Columbian Supremo coffee. Columbia Decaf is still a refreshingly fruity coffee with a distinct smokiness and soft sweet aroma, yet it comes without the worry of being restless later at night. Swiss Water Process is used to gently remove caffeine from the coffee beans with pure water, unlike other chemical decaffeination processes, while maintaining the beans distinctive characteristics.
Sumatra – Among the world’s most distinctive coffees.
Sumatra is a favorite among coffee lovers because of its intense flavor and body. It is a full-bodied coffee with a fruit-toned acidity that contains herbal notes and a pleasant earthy aroma. These characteristics, along with its deeply rich flavor are unique to Sumatran coffees. |
